This guided tour offers a unique opportunity to explore Mount Vesuvius, combining elements of geology, botany, and history in an educational and engaging adventure.
We begin our adventure with a walk to the summit crater of Vesuvius. We will use a less touristy path that will take us along the southern slope of the Gran Cono. Here, we will closely observe the geomorphological features of the volcano and discover the Mediterranean flora that thrives in this unique environment. During the ascent, we will be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and enjoy a 180° panoramic view stretching from the Sorrentine Peninsula to the Phlegraean Fields.
Next, we will venture onto trail no. 9, known as The Lava Flow. This short and fascinating path will allow us to walk on an ancient lava flow, crossing an almost lunar landscape. The trail, particularly suitable for school groups, starts near the Vesuvius Observatory and descends through a broadleaf forest. Along the way, we will observe hawthorn in the underbrush and discover pumice from the eruption of 79 AD, an ancient Bourbon well for collecting rainwater, and traces of the lava flow from 1944. At a clearing, we will enjoy a spectacular view: a rocky outcrop will offer a view of the Bay of Naples, its islands, and the slopes of Vesuvius, including the Cognoli di Giacca and Trocchia of Monte Somma. For the return, we will retrace our steps, concluding our tour at the starting point.
