This guided tour of Paestum is designed to offer students a comprehensive educational experience, combining history, archaeology, and culinary tradition in one unforgettable day. With our expert guide, students will immerse themselves in the past and experience firsthand the cultural and natural richness of this extraordinary region.
The day begins with the arrival in Paestum, where students will be greeted by our expert guide for an immersion into the heart of Magna Graecia. Our first stop is the archaeological area of Paestum, an ancient city founded by the Greeks under the name Poseidonia. Here, students will admire the three magnificent Doric temples of Hera, Neptune, and Athena, extraordinary examples of Greek architecture. The guide will explain the history and unique features of each temple, sharing anecdotes and curiosities about the daily life of the ancient inhabitants. The tour continues with a walk through the Roman Forum, once the center of public life in Paestum, where students can explore the ancient shops and market. The guide will explain the city’s evolution during the Roman period and how these structures were used. After exploring the archaeological area, we will move to the Archaeological Museum of Paestum, which houses precious artifacts found in the area. Students will have the opportunity to see up close the famous Tomb of the Diver, the only example of Greek painting from Magna Graecia, along with other frescoes, vases, and sculptures that provide a complete view of ancient life and culture.
After this rich immersion in history, there will be a lunch break. Students can enjoy a packed lunch in a picnic area, or, upon request, book a meal at a local restaurant to savor the typical dishes of Campanian cuisine.
Our guided tour continues with a visit to a farm specializing in the production of the famous Campanian buffalo mozzarella. Students will have the opportunity to witness the various stages of mozzarella production. The farm guide will explain the importance of each stage and how tradition and innovation come together to create this excellent product. During the visit, students can also explore the buffalo farm and learn more about these animals that are central to the farm’s activities. Students will discover the sustainable practices used in the breeding and cultivation of herbs destined for forage.
